• Hiking-first trip, best value: West Sedona.
• Quiet, scenic, usually cheaper: Village of Oak Creek.
• Splurge / special occasion: A creek-side or canyon resort, L'Auberge de Sedona (on Oak Creek in Uptown) or Enchantment Resort (in Boynton Canyon, West Sedona).

Sedona lodging is not cheap in peak season (March–May, September–November) and the best places genuinely sell out, book as early as your dates are firm, and check weekday rates, which can drop sharply versus weekends.

Uptown is Sedona's walkable core along SR 89A: galleries, shops, restaurants, jeep tour departures, and the town's landmark creek-side resorts. Amara Resort and L'Auberge de Sedona sit on Oak Creek just below the main street, you get red rock views, a spa, and dinner within walking distance. Mid-range chains and smaller motels line the highway just north and south of the center.

Choose Uptown if: it's your first visit, you have one or two nights, or you want evenings without driving. Trade-offs: highest prices in town, and SR 89A traffic crawls on spring and fall weekends.

West Sedona is the local, residential side of town along SR 89A heading toward Cottonwood. It's where you'll find solid mid-range hotels (the Wilde Resort & Spa and Arabella Sedona are the names that come up most), vacation rentals, grocery stores, and the trailheads for Devil's Bridge, Boynton Canyon, Fay Canyon, and Doe Mountain. Enchantment Resort, in Boynton Canyon, is the area's luxury outlier, a destination resort where the canyon walls are the amenity.

Choose West Sedona if: your trip is built around hiking, you're staying three-plus nights, or Uptown prices made you blink. Trade-offs: you'll drive 5–10 minutes to Uptown dining; there's less evening atmosphere.

The Village, about 7 miles south of Uptown on SR 179 (the Red Rock Scenic Byway), sits in the shadow of Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte. Lodging ranges from golf resorts like the Hilton Sedona Resort at Bell Rock to small inns and B&Bs like Las Posadas and Casa Sedona. The Bell Rock Pathway starts practically at your door, the Chapel of the Holy Cross is a few miles north, and dark-sky stargazing is superb, the Village is a designated International Dark Sky Community.

Choose the Village if: you want mornings on the trail, calmer evenings, and lower rates. Trade-offs: fewer restaurants, and the SR 179 drive into Uptown can be slow at peak times.

• Couples / honeymoon: L'Auberge de Sedona (creek-side cottages, Uptown) or Enchantment Resort (Boynton Canyon seclusion, spa).
• Families: Hilton Sedona Resort at Bell Rock (suites, pools, space) or a West Sedona vacation rental with a kitchen.
• Hikers: West Sedona for the west-side trailheads; Village of Oak Creek for Bell Rock/Courthouse Butte. Either beats Uptown for dawn starts.
• Budget: Look at West Sedona motels and Village inns, travel midweek or in the summer/winter shoulder, and book early, Sedona has no true "cheap" season anymore, but it has cheaper weeks.
• No car: Uptown, full stop. It's the only area where tours, dining, and the trailhead shuttle all connect without driving.
